European Galaxy Days 2025 took place from 1 to 3 October 2025 at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany. The three-day community meeting brought together people who use, develop, and manage the Galaxy platform for accessible, reproducible data analysis.
Onedata contributed to the programme with a presentation on integrating Galaxy with Onedata and managing Galaxy data through a distributed data layer. The session placed Onedata in the practical context of the Galaxy community: connecting analysis workflows with data held across research infrastructures, while supporting bring-your-own-data and bring-your-own-storage scenarios.
Galaxy and Onedata integration
On Thursday, 2 October, Łukasz Opioła presented “Galaxy & Onedata integration, managing Galaxy data using Onedata, BYOD & BYOS.” The 20-minute talk showed how the two platforms can work together.
In the BYOD scenario, Galaxy can import data from a variety of sources, including local storage, Dropbox, FTP, and research data management systems (RDMs). Onedata is now among them, making an Onedata space available to a Galaxy analysis without requiring every dataset to be moved into Galaxy first.
The BYOS approach uses an Onedata-backed object store for Galaxy histories, files, and datasets, subject to configured storage quotas. The slides also described the role of Pulsar and EGI DataHub in discovering data locations and replicas, and in helping schedule computation closer to the data.

European Galaxy Days provided a setting for Onedata to exchange practical experience with the Galaxy community and discuss how federated data management can support reproducible analysis workflows. The meeting’s talks, community sessions, and hands-on CoFest connected the integration presented by Onedata with the wider development of an open, collaborative Galaxy ecosystem.
