The 26th International Conference on Computational Science (ICCS 2026) brought together researchers working at the intersection of computational methods, data and scientific applications. Held from 29 June to 1 July 2026 at DESY in Hamburg, the conference explored the theme “At the Forefront of Science through Computation and Data”. Its programme covered scalable algorithms, advanced software tools, computational infrastructures and application-driven research across the sciences.
Onedata contributed to the CompPet programme with a presentation on data management and I/O provisioning for high-performance computational pipelines. The work examined how federated data management, intelligent data placement and resource orchestration can be combined across a distributed cloud–edge environment.
Data management and I/O provisioning across the cloud–edge continuum
On Wednesday, 1 July, Bartosz Kryza and co-authors presented “Data Management and I/O Provisioning Across Cloud-Edge Continuum for High-performance Computational Data Pipelines” as part of the SPICE project. The presentation addressed the practical challenges created by heterogeneous resources, distributed data sources, security requirements and the need to move data efficiently between computing locations.
The proposed architecture combines federated data management with intelligent data placement and continuum-aware resource orchestration. Its pipeline runtime services can adapt execution and optimise data access using observed access patterns and the availability of resources. The authors evaluated the approach with a real industrial pipeline from the fibre laser cutting domain, connecting the architectural concepts to a high-performance manufacturing workflow.
