Meet Onedata at EOSC Symposium 2026: Connecting Research Data
- community meeting
- Name
- EOSC Symposium 2026
- When
- 14–16 October 2026
- Where
- Palazzo dei Congressi, Florence, Italy
The annual EOSC Symposium brings Europe’s research community together to advance the European Open Science Cloud. In 2026, the focus is the EOSC Federation’s transition into operations.
Join us at Palazzo dei Congressi in Florence on 14–16 October 2026. After the Federation’s launch at the 2025 symposium, we look forward to meeting the people building its services.
Our delegate Łukasz Opioła will bring several perspectives to the event: as a member of the Polish EOSC Node operations team, a partner in three EOSC projects, and a familiar face of the Onedata software that connects these efforts.
Supporting the Polish EOSC Node
As Deputy Operations Manager in the Polish EOSC Node, Łukasz works with the technical solutions that help the Node operate. Cyfronet contributes these solutions, including Onedata, which provides a data and metadata backbone and integrates with the eosc.pl portal. The Node brings national digital research resources and services into EOSC, and Onedata helps connect data to the wider research environment.
Preparing data for AI with AI4SOCIAL+
The AI4SOCIAL+ project starts in October 2026 to develop an AI-ready infrastructure and tools for researchers and stakeholders in the social sciences and humanities. The Onedata team will build the metadata and data layer for onboarding datasets into AI pipelines, preparing them with the AI Readiness toolkit, and connecting them to cloud and HPC environments. That means workflows using Galaxy and COMPSs can train, fine-tune or run models, then host and publish their results as part of the broader EOSC ecosystem.
Connecting data and computing in EOSC Data Commons
In EOSC Data Commons, Cyfronet is a technical partner and the Onedata team works on the data access layer. It connects national and open repositories, organisational resources and external data sources with execution platforms such as Galaxy, Jupyter Notebooks, RRP and institutional services. The goal is to make data easier to discover and use across the distributed research infrastructure.
Bringing node perspectives to EOSC-CONNECT
Łukasz is an observer in EOSC-CONNECT, supporting the Polish National Science Centre (NCN), a project partner, with technical expertise. EOSC-CONNECT is building a federated network of independently managed national nodes so researchers can access and share data and resources across borders. Over the project’s three years, Łukasz will help align its recommendations with the Polish EOSC Node and carry relevant outcomes into Onedata’s development.
Meet the people behind the data fabric
Onedata is the common thread connecting these initiatives: distributed data management that can bridge repositories, organisations and computing environments. It is also the software Łukasz will be representing in Florence, and the foundation beneath the work described above.
Whether you work with one of these projects, are building services for EOSC, or simply want to explore Onedata or discuss a future collaboration, come and find Łukasz at the symposium. He would be glad to talk through what we are building and hear what your community needs next.
